The Ministry of the Environment, Japan will host the following Thematic events at TICAD 9.

Africa-Japan Partnership for a Climate-Resilient and Decarbonized Africa

This event will share the progress and potential of climate cooperation between Japan and Africa. It will highlight collaboration between Ministry of the Environment of Japan and African Development Bank (AfDB), the JCM project in partnership with United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) including the Fukuoka Method landfill sites, an adaptation project supporting the climate resilience of small-scale farmers, and efforts by Japanese local governments, private companies and international organizations.

Africa Clean Air Programme: From Asia to Africa

Led by the African Union and supported by UNEP/CCAC, ACAP promotes 37 clean air measures across Africa. Japan, through the introduction of its proven technologies and decades of experience in Asia, supports Africa's efforts via technical expertise and capacity-building, actively promoting South-South cooperation through public and private sector partnerships for a cleaner, healthier future.

The 4th African Clean Cities Platform (ACCP) Assembly

In conjunction with TICAD 9, the 4th General Assembly of the African Clean Cities Platform (ACCP) will be held.
Stakeholders of the ACCP—including representatives from African countries, the Ministry of the Environment , Japan, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), City of Yokohama, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat)—will gather to present and have discussions on the challenges in waste management African countries are facing, and the New Yokohama Action Guidance, which outlines activities for the next three years, will be announced.

TICAD9 MOEJ Official Exhibition Booth

Around the Ministry of the Environment’s official exhibition booth at the 2024 TICAD Ministerial Meeting

This exhibition will introduce Japan’s cooperation efforts aimed at addressing environmental challenges and promoting sustainable development in the African region. Poster exhibitions will showcase Japan’s support, initiatives, and technologies in three areas: climate change, waste management, and air pollution.

Head toward Minatomirai, use the moving walkway, pass through the shopping malls "Landmark Plaza" and "Queens Square," then cross the pedestrian overpass.
