High-Level Participation Showcasing Japan’s Environmental Technologies in Thailand
The Ministry of the Environment of Japan and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Thailand have been cooperating on environmental initiatives for many years. This seminar was held in conjunction with the 4th Thailand-Japan Environmental Policy Dialogue,ⅰ with the primary objective of promoting business collaboration between Thailand and Japan on environmental technologies and services, in partnership with the Thai Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the Embassy of Japan in Thailand.ⅱ The number of participants at the venue alone exceeded expectations, reaching approximately 200, and active discussions were held during the networking and business matching session that followed the seminar. The presence of Parliamentary Vice-Minister of the Environment of Japan, Mr. KUNISADA, and Vice Minister of Natural Resources and Environment of Thailand, H.E. Capt. RACHATA, enabled a high-level, public-private partnership appeal to Thai government officials and local companies regarding the initiatives, technologies, and services of Japanese companies. On the same day, a signing ceremony was also held at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment for the renewal of the Memorandum of Cooperation on the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) between H.E. Mr. OTAKA, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Thailand, and H.E. Pol. Gen. PATCHARAWAT, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment of Thailand, in the presence of Parliamentary Vice-Minister KUNISADA.
Initiatives, Technologies, and Services Presented under the Seminar Themes
The seminar featured two themes: "Circular Economy" and " Co-benefits / Climate Change ".
First, in the "Circular Economy" session, the Ministry of the Environment of Japan presented the Japanese government's policies on carbon neutrality and the circular economy. The session continued with presentations from Thai organizations, including the Department of Industrial Works’s talk titled “Circular Economy: Opportunities and challenges in industrial waste management” In the following session on "Climate Change, Co-benefits," a local bank gave a presentation on climate finance, and JICA introduced a project on “Introduction of Project for Sustainable Management of PM2.5 Prevention and Reduction Measures”.
Business pitches were delivered by a total of 23 private companies from both Japan and Thailand for each of the two sessions. The Japanese companies introduced technologies related to waste-to-energy, reuse/recycling, renewable energy, services for preventing refrigerant leakage, and AI technology for climate change adaptation. The Thai companies introduced advanced biorefinery technology for the production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and recycling systems for used plastics.
Each company delivered a well-structured presentation within the limited time, and the audience remained highly engaged throughout.
Networking Session and Individual Business Meetings
A large number of participants gathered for the networking and individual business meetings that followed the seminar. Lively discussions continued even after the scheduled time, deepening the dialogue on the development of environmental businesses in Thailand. The energetic atmosphere at the company desks, bustling with many participants, conveyed the high expectations for Japanese companies' technologies. Several participating companies later reported that some specific business cases had progressed.
This seminar was the first to be held by the JPRSI Secretariat in conjunction with a policy dialogue.
We encourage countries facing environmental challenges to explore the potential of Japanese technologies and welcome further inquiries.ⅲ
