Sewage Sludge Treatment

Technology / Service Summary

Our stoker-type sludge incineration system is known for high-temperature combustion and low power consumption, leading to the reduction of the GHG emission such as N2O.

Purpose

Reduces the electricity consumption and emission of GHG in the process of sewage sludge treatment by combusting at a high temperature and using steam to generate electricity.

Feature

① By combusting at high temperature (>900℃), N2O emission at the incineration process can be reduced.
② By generating electricity using steam made from the heat of flue gas, electricity consumption can be reduced.
③ By using heat of flue gas to dry the sewage sludge, auxiliary fuel is not necessary during normal operation.

Accomplishments

We conducted joint research with Tokyo Bureau of Sewerage to study the possibility of using stoker-type incinerator for sewage sludge treatment and amount of GHG emission in the process (2019-2021). Our stoker-type incinerator obtained a technical approval from Tokyo Bureau of Sewerage for its low electricity consumption and low GHG emission.
