This device performs desalination treatment (electrodialysis process) on the leachate from landfills. The extracted salt can be reused as an antifreeze agent. Beside the desalination device, the company Design, Build and Operate Landfill Leachate Treatment Plants.
In Japan, after the incineration of domestic wastes is carried out, the resulting ash is deposited in the landfill. Water is sprinkled regularly to stabilize the landfill, but the resulting leachate contains high concentration of salts and heavy metals and requires treatment. This device removes salt from the treated leachate after the regular leachate treatment.
If the salt present in the treated leachate is left untreated and released into the environment, it can harm croplands and plants. However, in the conventional leachate treatment system, calcium removal, biological treatment, and advanced treatment are performed, and salt treatment is left aside. A major feature of our equipment is that it can perform desalination treatment in addition to conventional treatment by electrodialysis process, in which only the inorganic ions in the leachate are permeated into the micro membrane by electric force. In this electrodialysis device, desalination and concentration are continuously performed by a cation and anion exchange membrane. The result of this process beside the treated leachate, there is released a concentrated salt water. After drying this concentrated salt water, salt can be used as antifreeze agent or a solidifying agent.
