Formulation and Implementation Support for Waste Analysis and Characterization Survey (WACS) Plans in Developing Countries
Technology / Service Summary
We support Waste Analysis and Characterization Survey (WACS) planning and implementation.
Purpose
In many developing countries, the vast majority of non-recyclable waste is landfilled without any sanitary treatment. As a result, interest in modern waste-to-energy (incineration) plants is growing. Yet detailed waste-composition surveys—covering:
• Three-component analysis (combustibles, incombustibles, moisture)
• Calorific-value measurement
• Elemental composition analysis
are essential for properly sizing and designing these facilities. Such surveys are often not supported by existing local systems.
Drawing on our 50+ years of domestic and international experience, we offer:
• Tailored survey-planning services that reflect local waste streams and logistics
• On-site implementation support, from sampling through laboratory testing
• Data analysis and reporting to inform facility design and technology selection
Through this assistance, we help accelerate the adoption of safe, efficient waste-to-energy and incineration projects in developing countries.
For successful WTE projects, it is important to understand the waste quality of the target waste. However, in many developping countries, most of the waste, except valuable materials, are landfilled without sanitary treatment. The waste quality is poorly surveyed. We support from planning to conduction of WACS by employing our experience in conducting WACS study in Japan and oversea.
Feature
• Development of a sampling plan tailored to the objectives of the survey.
• Pre-survey to understand the characteristics of the samples
• Coordination with analytical laboratories and service providers
• End-to-end support—from survey planning through on-site implementation—of WACS
Effect
Through the planning and conduction of WACS in developing countries, we support establishment of WTE-combustion facilities, thereby contributing to the creation of a decarbonized, circular society.
