Coagulant dosing optimization program (3S solution )
Kurita Water Industries Ltd.
Carbon Neutral Group, Innovation Division
Technology / Service Summary
Optimal chemical injection control using laser sensors helps maintain treated water quality in response to water quality fluctuations and reduces waste derived from additives.
Purpose
S. sensing CS is intended for customers who have coagulation sedimentation equipment or pressurized flotation equipment.
This system automatically optimizes the inorganic coagulant dosing while keeping the treated water quality stable for fluctuating wastewater raw water.
This system prevents excessive chemical injection and reduces sludge derived from inorganic flocculants.
In addition, automatic control saves operator work and reduces total costs for customers.
Feature
S. sensing CS uses a special sensor to monitor the inside of the flocculation reaction tank and control the amount of chemical dosing.
In conventional control, it was common to measure treated water after coagulation and sedimentation or pressurized flotation far from the chemical injection point.
As a result, there was a time lag between when the raw water source fluctuated and when the amount of chemical injection was controlled, making it impossible to control quickly.
On the other hand, S. sensing CS can monitor the flocculation reaction tank closer to the chemical injection point, enabling smooth automatic chemical injection control with a short time lag and achieving stable treated water quality.
Effect
Kurita's unique automatic chemical injection control system that reduces running costs for wastewater treatment.
Utilizing a special patented technology that can measure turbidity in a flocculation reactor, we optimize chemical dosing with minimal time lag.
We support our customers' operations by saving labor and stabilizing water quality through automatic control, and by reducing chemical costs and sludge disposal costs, we provide solutions that reduce total costs for our customers.

Accomplishments
Here is an example of how S. sensing CS has helped customers reduce their total costs.
In order to maintain stable treated water quality, we installed a dedicated operator and used 90 tons of inorganic coagulants per month for wastewater treatment. By introducing S. sensing CS, we are now able to maintain turbidity below the target value. And we succeeded in reducing the amount of inorganic coagulants used and the amount of chemical-derived sludge generated by approximately 50%.
In addition, we have succeeded in saving labor in operation management through automatic control.
