Green Hydrogen production from Waste Aluminum

Technology / Service Summary

Recycling technology using three proprietary devices
・Pulper-type separator (separates paper from aluminum paper packages using water)
・Dry distillation aluminum recovery equipment (decomposes and removes plastics attached to aluminum through heat treatment to recover high-purity aluminum)
・Hydrogen production equipment (uses waste aluminum to extract "green hydrogen" from water and produces “green aluminum hydroxide” as a byproduct)

Purpose

We contribute to local production for local consumption of energy, the creation of a sustainable society, and the permanent preservation of the global environment by using our proprietary recycling technology to convert aluminum packaging containers that are conventionally discarded and low-grade waste aluminum that has nowhere else to go into recycled resources and hydrogen energy.

Feature

In addition to being green hydrogen with zero CO2 emissions during production, it can be operated with low power consumption of 0.2 kWh/N㎥ -H2 when 1 kg of hydrogen is produced. The price of hydrogen is virtually zero yen by selling aluminum hydroxide, a byproduct of hydrogen production, and the system is unique in that it can be used stand-alone without consuming grid power in combination with fuel cells. The ability to produce hydrogen energy “when needed,” “where needed,” and “in needed quantities” on an on-time, onsite basis reduces excess electricity, storage losses, transportation costs, and emissions of aluminum waste, making it innovative from an environmental standpoint as well.

Effect

Our technology eliminates the generation of aluminum dross, which remains one of the many challenges of conventional cascade aluminum recycling, and can be effectively used as a raw material to produce “green hydrogen,” a next-generation energy source. We contribute to the realization of decarbonized company management by producing hydrogen on-site at the premises of companies that generate waste aluminum and utilizing it as a power source for their plants.
