Fukuoka prefecture is located in the northern part of Kyushu, which is in the southwest of Japan. It is geographically close to the rest of Asia and has developed as an open gateway to Asia since ancient times. The area of the prefecture is about 5,000 km², and the population is about 5.1 million.
