[COP28 Japan Pavilion] P2C (Power to Chemicals) Converting CO₂ into valuable products with renewable energy

Technology / Service Summary

The key technology to the circular carbon society is CO₂ electrolysis, which uses renewable energy to convert CO₂ into CO (a raw material for chemical synthesis). P2C bridges the CCU supply chain.

Purpose

CO₂ is a very stable material, but when it is converted to CO using renewable energy, it becomes unstable, i.e., reacts easily with other materials. This CO can be used as a raw material to create a variety of chemical products.

Feature

Toshiba has developed a special catalyst electrode and achieved the world's highest conversion rate in CO₂ electrolysis, in which CO₂ is directly reacted in gaseous state, without being dissolved in water.

Effect

Fuels and chemical products are essential for daily life. With P2C technology, these products can be produced from carbon neutral materials.
